James P. Williams
Scientist, MethaneSAT Science
Work
Areas of expertise:
Methane emissions assessment
Description
James is actively engaged in using MethaneSAT emissions data, together with data from other methane-observing satellites, to improve assessments of oil and gas methane emissions around the world. His previous work focused on direct measurements of abandoned/orphaned oil and gas wells in the US and Canada, urban natural gas supply chains, landfills, and methane emissions from sewer systems.
Background
James holds a PhD in Civil Engineering from McGill University, Montreal, QC, Canada. He first joined EDF as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow through the EDF Postdoctoral Program in 2023 where he worked on cumulative methane emissions distributions from the US upstream/midstream oil and gas sector.
Education
PhD, Civil Engineering, McGill University, Montreal, QC, Canada (2023)
